Description
Half-length portrait of William Molyneux in a dark robe, white cravat and long wig. His is turned slightly towards his right with his head looking back towards his left. Engraving after a painting now in the National Portrait Gallery collection and previously attributed to Godfrey Kneller.
Inscribed below: ‘Engraved by E. Scriven. Engraver to His Majesty.’ ‘WILLIAM MOLYNEUX ESQRE.’ ‘Proof’
William Molyneux (1656-1698), British writer and natural philosopher, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1686.
