Description
Three-quarter length seated portrait of William Taylor Money at a writing desk. He is shown in a tailored jacket, buttoned shirt and frilled silk cravat. A number of books and letters can be seen on his desk, as well as three inkwells and a quill pen. He is shown in a casual pose with his right arm over the back of his chair and his left hand resting by his hip.
Inscribed below: ‘G. Dupont pinxt.’ ‘C. Turner sculpt.’ ‘WILLIAM MONEY Esqr. / A Director of the Honorable United East India Company / And Elder Brother of the Corporation of Trinity House.’
William Taylor Money (1769-1834), British naval captain, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1818.
