Description
Half-length portrait of Alexander Monro within an oval frame. Monro is shown turned towards his right, and looking back towards the viewer. He is presented in a black robe, white cravat and a short wig. Below the portrait a rod of Asclepius and a medical book can be seen, the book is open to an illustration of the organs of the body.

Alexander Monro (1697-1767), Scottish physician and anatomist, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1723.
