    Description
    Half-length portrait of George Brudenell Montagu within an oval frame. He is shown wearing a dark jacket with prominent buttons, a silk cravat and the badge of the order of the Garter displayed on his left lapel.

    Inscribed below: ‘Painted by W.Beechy.’ ‘Engraved by J.Collyer, A. Portrait Engraver to Her Majesty.’ ‘George, Duke of Montague, / KNIGHT of the most Noble Order of the GARTER. / Master of the Horse to His Majesty, / and Governor and Constable of Windsor Castle.’

    ‘Published as the Act directs, 1 March 1793.’ ‘Sold by W.Faden. Charing Cross, Messrs Darling & Thompson, Newport Street, M.Ryland, Bond Street, & J.Collyer, Dorrington Street, Cold Bath Fields.’

    George Brudenell Montagu, 1st Duke of Montagu (1712 - 1790), British magistrate, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1749.
