Description
Half-length portrait of John Montagu in a long jacket and silk scarf shown holding a hat under his left arm and the end of a cane in his right hand. He is presented in a long, curly wig and has the badge of the order of the Garter displayed on his left lapel.

John Montagu, 2nd Duke of Montagu (1690-1749), British courtier, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1718.
