    Half-length portrait of George Douglas in a dark jacket and white cravat. His star of the Order of the Thistle can just be seen on the left side of his jacket. He is shown turned slightly towards his left and is looking out towards the viewer.

    George Douglas, 16th Earl of Morton (1761-1827), Scottish politician, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1785. He served as vice president from 1795-1819 during Joseph Banks’s presidency.
