    Half-length portrait of Thomas Murdoch in a dark, buttoned-up jacket and a white cravat. He is turned slightly towards his right and is shown in an interior setting with the edge of an ornate architectural panel visible behind his left shoulder.

    Thomas Murdoch (1758–1846), Scottish merchant, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1805.
