Description
Three-quarter length seated portrait of William Musgrave in a fur-trimmed jacket, waistcoat and frilled shirt. He is presented with a study with a bookcase seen behind him, partially obscured by a heavy curtain. His right arm is seen resting on a collection of documents arranged on his desk, while he holds a printed portrait in his left hand.

Sir William Musgrave, 6th Baronet (1735-1800), British antiquary, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1774.
