    Description
    Half-length seated portrait of Isaac Newton as President of the Royal Society. He is shown seated, turned towards his left, wearing a dark, unbuttoned jacket with a long neck band. The edge of an architectural pillar is visible to his left. Detail after the 1725 John Vanderbank portrait of Newton, also held by the Royal Society.

    Sir Isaac Newton (1642 – 1727), British natural philosopher, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1672, he served as its President from 1703 to 1727.
