Description
Half-length portrait of Isaac Newton within an oval frame. He is shown in a loose robe with a shirt underneath. Seen in a more casual pose than his later more formal portraits, Newton is presented here without a wig, revealing his wavy, shoulder-length hair. Engraving after an oil painting, the original of which is now in the collection of the Earl of Portsmouth.

Sir Isaac Newton (1642 – 1727), British natural philosopher, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1672, he served as its President from 1703 to 1727.
