Description
Three-quarter length portrait of William North in an elaborately embroidered tunic, turned towards his right. He is shown holding the top of a cane in his right hand and with his left hand resting on his hip. Scenes from a mounted battle can be seen at the left edge of the image.

William North, 6th Baron North and 2nd Baron Grey (1678-1734), English soldier, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1720.
