Inscribed below: ‘Painted by C. W. Day.’ ‘Engraved by W. Finden.’ ‘WILLIAM MORTON PITT, ESQ. / OF KINGSTON, MARLWAND. / Born May 16th. 1754. / M.P. for the County of Dorset, from 1790, to 1826, without opposition / AGED 79 YEARS.’
William Morton Pitt (1754-1836), British politician, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1787.
