Description
Three-quarter length seated portrait of Sir Robert Raymond in ceremonial robes, a chain of office and a long judicial wig. He is shown turned slightly towards his left, wearing a glove on right hand. He is seen holding his left glove in his right hand.
Inscribed below: ‘The Rt. Honourable ROBERT Lord RAYMOND / Lord CHIEF-JUSTICE of his Majties Court of KINGS BENCH, / & one of the most Honble Privy Council’ ‘G. Vertue Sculpt.’
Sir Robert Raymond, 1st Baron Raymond (1673-1733), British judge, was not a Fellow of the Royal Society. His son, Robert Raymond, 2nd Baron Raymond (c.1717-1756), British peer, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1740.
