    Three-quarter length standing portrait of John Scott Russell within an oval frame. This formal studio photographs shows Russell holding onto the back of a chair wearing a black coat, white shirt and black bowtie. His white gloves can be seen held in his left hand. He is presented against a plain background with a patterned curtain visible to the right-side of the image.

    John Scott Russell (1808-1882), Scottish engineer and naval architect, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1849.
