    Full-length studio portrait of James Scott Bowerbank seated on a wooden chair against a painted backdrop. Bowerbank is half-turned to the left as viewed and looks to camera. His left arm leans against the curved back of a fringed and tasselled chair or chaise-longue.

    Printed verso, with a lion and unicorn royal badge: “POULTON, 352 STRAND, W.C. UNDER THE PATRONAGE OF H.M. THE QUEEN.”

    James Scott Bowerbank was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1842.
