Description
Half length portrait of Ure looking to the right as viewed. Ure wears a patterned waistcoat and checked trousers with a jacket, high white collar and dark tie. He holds the handle of an umbrella in his right hand.
Not mounted, torn at each corner and therefore extracted from an album. Inscribed in ink verso: “Dr Ure”.
Andrew Ure was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1821.

Object history
The portrait is not signed, but another copy of this print is in the Royal Collections Trust (RCIN 2800656) having been acquired by Prince Albert. The Royal Society has a copy of a second print, apparently from the same sitting, with Andrew Ure wearing in identical costume. This picture features two family members.
