    A taxidermy Emperor penguin, shown standing, with head bowed, incubating an egg on an ice floe.

    From the Royal Society's scientific station in the Antarctic, established in 1956 for the International Geophysical Year (IGY), specifically Emperor Bay, next to Halley Bay. Stuffed at the Natural History Museum.
    Object history
    Either deposited with the Society when the advance party returned in 1956, or with the return of the first party in 1959.
