    Thomas Lydwell Eckersley (1886 - 1959), British physicist and engineer, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1938. He can be seen third from the left in the back row.

    Harold Spencer Jones (1890 - 1960), British astronomer, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1930. He was awarded the Royal Medal in 1943. He can be seen second from the right in the back row.

    Archibald Vivian Hill (1886 - 1977), British physiologist, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1918. He was awarded the Royal Medal in 1926 and the Copley Medal in 1948. He can be seen second from the left in the front row.

    Frederick John Marrian Stratton (1881 - 1960), British astrophysicist, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1947. He can be seen in the centre of the front row.
