Description
Three-quarter length seated studio portrait of John Fox Burgoyne, looking to the right as viewed. Abel is seated on an upholstered chair with his left hand resting on a covered table upon which the corner of a book is just visible. Burgoyne’s coat is shown open, revealing an honours ribbon.
Printed below the image: “WILSON & BEADELL, 69, NEW BOND STREET.” Variously inscribed verso, including printed: “Wilson & Beadell, Photographers AND Miniature Painters, 69 New Bond Street, near Brook Street, London W.”.
Field Marshall Sir John Fox Burgoyne, 1st Baronet, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1856.
