    Full length studio portrait of Florence Baker, seated before a writing desk and with a curtain behind and to the left as viewed. She is dressed in a full, light-coloured dress with a patterned hem, a wide belt and buttoned bodice. She wears ribbons in her hair.

    Printed below the image: “MAULL & Co. LONDON”. The reverse is variously inscribed: printed “MAULL & Co. PHOTOGRAPHERS. 187A PICCADILLY W. 82 CHEAPSIDE EC. TAVISTOCK HOUSE, FULHAM ROAD. LONDON.”

    Florence Baker was the wife of Sir Samuel White Baker FRS (1821–1893).

    Henry Maull (1829-1914) was a British photographer who specialised in portraits of noted individuals. Maull formed several partnerships during his career:

    Maull & Fox 1879-1908: in partnership with John Fox (1832-1907)

    The Royal Society holds approximately 600 photographic portraits of Fellows taken at Henry Maull studios between the mid-nineteenth century and the early twentieth century.
