    Full length studio portrait of Bateman seated with his left elbow resting upon a table upon which can be seen his hat and gloves. The sitter holds a cane in his left hand.

    Printed below the image: “MAULL & POLYBLANK, LONDON”. The reverse has various inscriptions. Printed: “MAULL & POLYBLANK, Photographers, 55 GRACECHURCH STREET, 187a, PICCADILLY, and TAAVISTOCK HOUSE FULHAM ROAD LONDON”.

    John Frederic La Trobe Bateman was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1860.

    Maull & Co 1873-1878
    Maull & Fox 1879-1908: in partnership with John Fox (1832-1907)

    The Royal Society holds approximately 600 photographic portraits of Fellows taken at Henry Maull studios between the mid-nineteenth century and the early twentieth century.
