Description
Half-length portrait of Bateman, seated and posed reading a book. The sitter’s face is in half profile, turned to the left as viewed and looking slightly downward.
Printed below the image: “MAULL & FOX, 187A PICCADILLY, LONDON". The reverse has various inscriptions including a series of printed coats of arms and “MAULL & FOX PHOTOGRAPHERS TO THE ROYAL FAMILY Portrait and Miniature Painters, 187A, PICCADILLY LONDON. Marion Imp. Paris.” There is a manuscript negative number: “184882”.
John Frederic La Trobe Bateman was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1860.
