    Head and shoulders portrait of Shelford Bidwell, head turned to the right as viewed.

    Printed below the image: “MAULL & FOX, 187a PICCADILLY, LONDON.” The reverse has various inscriptions including a series of printed coats of arms and “MAULL & FOX PHOTOGRAPHERS TO THE ROYAL FAMILY Portrait and Miniature Painters, 187A, PICCADILLY LONDON. Marion Imp. Paris.” There is a manuscript inscription that includes a negative number: “S. Bidwell Esq. F.R.S. 180829c”.

    Shelford Bidwell was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1886.

    Maull, Henry & Co 1866-1872
    Maull & Co 1873-1878
    Maull & Fox 1879-1908: in partnership with John Fox (1832-1907)

    The Royal Society holds approximately 600 photographic portraits of Fellows taken at Henry Maull studios between the mid-nineteenth century and the early twentieth century.
