Description
Full length studio portrait of Archibald Billing seated and half-turned to the left as viewed. Billing holds a book in his right hand while his left arm rests on a small carved wooden table upon which are more books and an inkwell.
Inscribed below the image: “MAULL & Co. LONDON”. The reverse is variously inscribed: printed “MAULL & Co. Photographers, 55, GRACECHURCH STREET, 187a PICCADILLY and TAVISTOCK HOUSE, FULHAM ROAD. LONDON.” The negative number “44725” also appears.
Archibald Billing was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1844.
