Description
Full length studio portrait of John Bowring standing and turned to the right as viewed. Bowman wears spectacles and rests his left hand, which holds a roll of paper, on a chair back. A small clothed table can be seen behind with two books resting on it.

Sir John Bowring was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1856.
