    Description
    Full length studio portrait of Campbell Greig de Morgan standing near a writing desk with a pedestal carved to resemble bookshelves. De Morgan rests his left hand on a two genuine volumes of five held with a bookend on top of the desk, upon which is also an inkstand. The studio is dressed with a drape edged with a Greek key motif and a chair. De Morgan wears a signet ring on his right hand and wears an eyeglass [?] on a chain.

    Inscribed below the image: “MAULL & Co. LONDON”. The reverse is variously inscribed: printed “MAULL & Co. Photographers, 55, GRACECHURCH STREET, 187a PICCADILLY and TAVISTOCK HOUSE, FULHAM ROAD. LONDON.” Below, the negative number: “40653”.

    Campbell Greig de Morgan was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1861.

    Maull & Fox 1879-1908: in partnership with John Fox (1832-1907)

    The Royal Society holds approximately 600 photographic portraits of Fellows taken at Henry Maull studios between the mid-nineteenth century and the early twentieth century.
