    Three quarter length studio portrait of J B Jukes, standing and facing left as viewed. Jukes’s right hand is tucked into his waistcoat, the left rests at his side.

    Arched gold surround, inscribed below in gold: “Photographed by MAULL & POLYBLANK, 55, Gracechurch Street and 187A Piccadilly, London.” Signed below in ink “J. Beete Jukes”. Inscribed verso in pencil: “Professor Jukes M.A; F.R.S; F.G.S. Author. Head of the Geological Survey Ireland”.

    (Joseph) Beete Jukes was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1853.

    The Royal Society holds approximately 600 photographic portraits of Fellows taken at Henry Maull studios between the mid-nineteenth century and the early twentieth century.
