Troughton and Simms, Instrument maker
A three armed spectroscope with an equatorial mount adaptor and tripod base. Two collimator scopes [left as viewed] and one five inch telescope [right] extend from the central prism house. The glass prism therein spilts the observed light source into its various wavelengths, enabling analysis.
Engraved on top of the prism house: 'Royal Society 1867'.
Troughton & Simms was a British scientific instrument making firm, formed when Edward Troughton (1753-1835) took on William Simms (1793-1860) as a partner in 1826.
