Description
Plate 1 from the paper "An account of some peculiarities in the structure of the organ of hearing in the Balaena mysticetus of Linaeus", by Everard Home, Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, vol.102 (1812), pp.83-89. The work is inscribed above with publication and plate details. Signed lower left "W.Clift del.1811." Royal Society stamp verso. The animal was procured for Everard Home by William Scoresby from Greenland whaling grounds. The cranium was salted and transported to London for dissection.
