    Plate 4 from the paper "On the elasticity of the lungs", by James Carson, Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, vol.110 (1820), pp.29-44. Scheme of a glass globe and tubing inserted into the windpipe of a sheep. The work is inscribed with publication and plate details and the note "Explanatory Figure" has been pencilled through as a deletion. Not signed. Royal Society stamp verso, together with the paper title and author details.
