Description
Plate 29 from the paper "On the difference in the appearence of the teeth and the shape of the skull in different species of seals", by Everard Home, Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, vol.112 (1822), pp.239-240. Side view of the skull of a seal preserved in the Museum of the Royal College of Surgeons. The animal was "brought by Mr Kearn, in a Whaler, from New Georgia, near the ice towards the South Pole". The work is inscribed with publication and plate details. Signed and inscribed lower left "Wm. Clift delin. 1822. Scale. Half an Inch to an Inch." Royal Society stamp verso.
