Description
Landscape with lake and steam clouds in the middle distance. Original typescript inscription reads: "View of the Great Fissure occupied by a New Lake looking South from Mount Tarawera. Fine view of the Steam Cloud from Mount Rotomahana. Phot. by C.Spencer on 5th August 1886." Print marked "46" upper left. The print is embossed "Charles Spencer, photographer".
Object history
From an album of photographs describing the eruption of Mount Tarawera on the central North Island of New Zealand on 10 June 1886. Presented to the Royal Society by James Hector on 17 July 1886, with additional photographs on 22 September 1886.
