Figures 1-13 Aulacaspis rosae, view of the insects on a branch of wild rose and at various stages of development. Natural size and at various magnifications. Paintings pasted onto a backing board. Signed "R.Newstead ad nat del."The facing page is a corrected [in pencil] proof version of captions, "Explanation of Plate XIV".
    Object history
    From a volume of original illustrations for "Monograph of the Coccidae of the British Isles", (Ray Society, 1900-1902). Newstead’s work illustrates the structure and habitat of scaled insects, often having economic importance as agricultural pests. Printed note of presentation pasted onto front marbled endpaper, "From Professor R. Newstead, 67, Handbridge, Chester. Plate 1 stamped "Adlard & Son, Bartholomew Close E.C., 21 Sep.1901. Proof" and annotated in pencil "Own copy Sept 23 1901".
