                                Plate 20, "Monograph of the Coccidae of the British Isles", by Robert Newstead (Ray Society, 1900-1902). Figures 1-10 Chionaspis aspidistrae, views of the insects including the female and male insects in situ on a fern leaf (figures1-2) and puparium details. Natural size and at various magnifications. Figures are pasted onto a main  backing board. Signed "R.Newstead ad nat del."                                 From a volume of original illustrations for "Monograph of the Coccidae of the British Isles", (Ray Society, 1900-1902). Newstead’s work illustrates the structure and habitat of scaled insects, often having economic importance as agricultural pests. Printed note of presentation pasted onto front marbled endpaper, "From Professor R. Newstead, 67, Handbridge, Chester. Plate 1 stamped "Adlard & Son, Bartholomew Close E.C., 21 Sep.1901.
