    Description
    Plate 28, "Monograph of the Coccidae of the British Isles", by Robert Newstead (Ray Society, 1900-1902). Figures 1-9 studies of Ischnaspis filiformis, including views of the insect on a portion of palm leaf, the adult female, and details of female pygidium, larvae and puparium. Natural size and at x25, x50, x100 and x250 magnifications. Signed below "R.Newstead ad nat del." Several figures have been pasted onto a main backing board. The facing page is a corrected [in pencil] proof version of captions, "Explanation of Plate XXIV".
    Object history
    From a volume of original illustrations for "Monograph of the Coccidae of the British Isles", (Ray Society, 1900-1902). Newstead’s work illustrates the structure and habitat of scaled insects, often having economic importance as agricultural pests. Printed note of presentation pasted onto front marbled endpaper, "From Professor R. Newstead, 67, Handbridge, Chester. Plate 1 stamped "Adlard & Son, Bartholomew Close E.C., 21 Sep.1901. Proof" and annotated in pencil "Own copy Sept 23 1901".
