Description
Stereoscopic photograph used to produce Plate 24 figure 9 for the paper "On the construction of specula of six-feet aperture; and a selection from the observations of nebulae made with them", by William Parsons, 3rd Earl of Rosse, Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, volume 151 (1861) pp.681-746. Study of the crane carrying the eastern counterpoise of the great telescope. The image shows the guide wheel, pulley system and other features; to the right of the image is the main tube of the telescope almost at zenith.
