    Description
Unused illustration for the paper "On the construction of specula of six-feet aperture; and a selection from the observations of nebulae made with them", by William Parsons, 3rd Earl of Rosse, Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, volume 151 (1861) pp.681-746. Study of the crane carrying the eastern counterpoise of the great telescope, similar to that used to produce figure 9, plate 24, but angled slightly differently. The image shows the guide wheel, pulley system and other features: to the right of the photograph the main tube of the telescope is just visible, almost at zenith.
