    Illustrations accompanying a letter describing Antoni van Leeuwenhoek's microscopical observations, dated 12 January 1680. An English extract of the letter was printed in Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, vol 13 (1683), pp. 197-208. The figures show: fibres in a section of ebony cut crosswise (no. 6, fig. 1) and lengthwise (no. 6, figs. 2 and 3); fibres in a section of boxwood cut crosswise (no. 7, fig. 1) and lengthwise (no. 7, fig. 2); a section of straw cut crosswise (no. 8, fig. 1) and the exterior of the straw (no. 8, fig. 2).
