Printed below the image: “Mayall, Photo. London & Brighton". The reverse has various inscriptions. Printed: “PHOTOGRAPHED FROM LIFE BY MAYALL, 224, REGENT STREET, LONDON, 90, King’s Road, BRIGHTON.” Inscribed in ink: “Thomas Davidson esq F.R.S. G.S. etc etc August 1868.”
Thomas Davidson was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1857.
