Description
Partial solar and lunar eclipses for the dates: 1 April 1912; 17 April 1912; 12 March 1914; 21 August 1914; 3 February 1916; 15 July 1916. Each drawing is inscribed above with the date and time of mid-eclipse. Additional notes appear verso on each astronomical event, including predictions of geographical locations experiencing totality.
Object history
From manuscript "Eclipses of the Sun and Moon 1882-2000", by Samuel J Johnson FRAS (MS/117). Projected drawings of the tracks of solar and lunar eclipses, including Transits of Venus, with supporting descriptive text. In addition to predictive calculations, Johnson includes retrospective drawings of key historical eclipses from 763 BC to 1724 AD. Also included is a letter of presentation from the clergyman and astronomer dated 25 March 1882 written at Melplash Vicarage Bridport, Devon.
