Object history
Egerton was a keen watercolourist - an exhibition of his paintings was held at the Chenil Galleries in 1957. Presumably this sketch was made by him in the course of Royal Society business (Egerton and Dale were on Council together) and inserted into his diary for the period 1939-40, where it remained. Egerton’s papers were presented to the Royal Society by Lady Egerton in 1969.
