    Half-length portrait, the sitter in black jacket, waistcoat and tie, with a high-collared white shirt. Facing to the viewer’s left and seated in a high-backed red chair.

    Thomas Graham was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1836.

    The donation is noted In the Royal Society’s Council Minutes for 1902: “Read a letter from Mrs J.C.Inglis, offering to present a portrait by G.F.Watts of her uncle, the late Mr. Thomas Graham, F.R.S. Resolved – That the offer of Mrs Inglis be accepted…” [Royal Society Minutes of Council, Printed, vol.8 1898-1903, 11 July 1902, p.317].
