    Head and shoulders portrait of Tattannoeuck [right as viewed] and Hoeootoerock [left as viewed]. Both wear their hair short and large brown overcoats.

    Plate inscribed: 'JUNIUS' and 'AUGUSTUS'.

    John Franklin (1786-1847) British Naval officer and exporer was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1823. In 1819 he was chosen to lead the Coppermine Expedition overland from Hudson Bay to chart the North Coast of Canada.

    Tattannoeuck, also known as Augustus, and Hoeootoerockare, also known as Julius, were two Inuk men recruited as interpreters for Franklin's expedition.
