    Description
    Botanical study of Phlox carolina, described by John Martyn in the Historia Plantarum Rariorum (1728-) and reproduced there as plate 9, (sponsored by Johann Caspar Scheutzer). From a specimen grown at Chelsea Physic Garden, probably from originals gathered by Mark Catesby. Inscribed in ink "Lychnidea Caroliniana foribus quasi umbellatim dispositis folio lucidis crassis acutus, Martyn. H.R.P.D." Not signed. Watermarked "LVG."
