Description
Boyle's second air pump, constructed after he gave his first "great Engine" (used in the original New experiments ... Touching the spring of the air, 1660) to the Royal Society. This plate shows "the figures of the several metalline parts that compose it, before they are set together". Plate 2 from A continuation of New experiments physico-mechanical, touching the spring and weight of the air, and their effects, Part 1, by Robert Boyle (Oxford, 1669).
