Description
Seated portrait of Coxe in a fur trimmed robe holding a small book in his left hand, the right arm leaning on a table upon which rests a larger book and a loose paper marked “Map of Europe”.
Inscribed: “C.Grignion Pinxt. Wm.Pether Fecit. Wm. Coxe, A.M. F.R.S. Fellow of King’s Coll. Cambridge, born March 18.1746.” Inscribed in pencil lower left “1782”.
William Coxe was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1782.
