Description
Two profile portraits within a circular inscription, with putti above and the allegorical figure of time, with a scythe, below.
Inscribed above “NUMISMA GERMANUM INCLYTO SUI NOMINIS VIRO D:” The circular inscription reads: “IO: BAPT: FORNASARIUS IV: COLL: Bon: Nob: in Patr: Archig: I.C.ord: de sero &HIPPOL: ABBAS Primar, de mane Fratres Emeriti.” With a quotation from Cicero below. Inscribed lower right “F.Francia sculp.” In pencil lower left “1696”
Ippolito Fornassari (1628-1697), Italian clergyman and brother to G B Fornassari, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1696. This print was presumably collected in error.
