The gift is recorded in the Society’s Journal Book for the period: “A portrait of Dr. Bradley late Astronomer Royal & F.R.S. presented by the Revd. Mr. Peach.” [Royal Society Journal Book Original, JBO/34 meeting of 9 December 1790, p.222]. Samuel Peach, rector of Compton, Beauchamp, in Berkshire was the son-in-law of James Bradley.
