Description
Three quarter length portrait of Robert Southwell seated on wooden armchair with a rolled back and armrests. Southwell wears a brown shoulder length wig, white shirt with lace at the cuffs, lace neck-cloth and brown robe. His right hand rests against the chair arm, index finger slightly extended.
Robert Southwell was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1663, he served as its President from 1690 to 1695.
