    Head and shoulders portrait of Sturm, in a painted oval, wearing a shoulder-length wig, dark coat and white neck-cloth. Sturm has a thin moustache, curled at the ends.

    The painting was presented at a meeting of the Society on 27 February 1684: “Mr Theodore Haak presented the Picture of Sturmius for which he received the thanks of the Company from the President”. [Royal Society Journal Book, Original, JBO/7, meeting of 27 February 1684, p.213]. The painting is noted as being in the Society’s holdings in early museum catalogues. [Royal Society Manuscript MS/414 section 11 ‘Artificial Curiosities’, p.20].
